Superfast Gigabit Jersey broadband row continues

There is no need to invest millions of pounds in superfast broadband cables, according to Airtel-Vodafone.

Jersey's treasury minister wants to give millions of pounds to phone firm JT to install a fibre optic connection.

The project, called Gigabit Jersey, aims to attract large internet businesses to the island and give all homes superfast connections.

Airtel-Vodafone said the future of the internet was in mobile platforms, such as tablets and smart phones.

The firm said it believed it was possible to get high speed internet access without the fibre optic cables.

The company said it was investing in faster technology without the help of the government and Gigabit Jersey should be fair for all operators.
