Union says Jersey waste workers could take industrial action

Workers at Jersey's waste plant could take industrial action over a proposed drop in pay after potential changes to the shift system, says a union leader.

Members of the Unite union met to discuss concerns with Transport and Technical Services (TTS).

Union leader Nick Corbel said employees were not consulted about the changes.

John Rodgers, head of TTS, said his department was always in discussion with workers and the union about making the service more efficient.

But he declined to give details about the union's claims.

Mr Corbel said the employer put forward a revision of the weekend work and overtime arrangements to cover the bulky waste site at Bellozanne and La Collette with no prior discussion with the workforce.

He said : "They are proposing that any worker working at weekends would receive a three grade pay drop.

"There is nothing within the current agreement that allows the employer to make such a drop in pay and this has angered our membership."
