The States of Jersey will spend up to £27m building new homes and refurbishing social housing after money was released by the Treasury Minister.

Senator Philip Ozouf said the money was available because States funds were in a better shape than originally thought.

Six projects will benefit from the money if States members approve the plans.

Senator Ozouf said the investment was vital to help the island's construction industry.

He said without it construction companies would have to make staff redundant.

The money would pay for work at sites including La Collette Tower and Le Squez.
