States final pay offer 'derisory' Unite union says

The final pay offer for government employees in Jersey has been described as "derisory" by a union official.

The deal offered by the States of Jersey includes a 1% lump sum this year and next, as well as an additional 1% pay increase next year.

In 2014, job changes will be made as part of a modernisation programme and States workers have been offered a rise of 4%.

Nick Corbel, from the Unite union, said in real terms it amounted to a pay cut.

He said he was astonished by the offer and warned that industrial action could be taken.

"What we have seen is in effect derisory and has not value at all," he told BBC News.

"Effectively, in real terms, it's a pay cut."

The States of Jersey declined to comment.
