Plea over upkeep of Jersey Val de la Mare forest

Jersey residents are being urged to help maintain a woodland containing rare and exotic species of trees.

The Val de la Mare arboretum in St Ouen was planted in the 70s and 80s, but became overgrown until it was restored and reopened in 2012.

Michael Morel of charity Trees for Life said volunteers were need to help maintain the trees and the woodland.

The official opening of the arboretum in 2012 marked 75 years of the charity as well as the Queen's Diamond Jubilee.

Many areas of the wood were sponsored by Jersey organisations.

A spokesman for Trees for Life said the 50,000 sq m arboretum was unique in Jersey and contained many unusual species.
