Jersey unemployment figures continue to rise

The number of people seeking work in Jersey has risen to its highest recorded level, according to the States Statistics Unit.

At the end of March 2,050 people were registered as actively seeking work, 20 more than at the end of February and 240 more than a year earlier.

Of those registered 1,460 (71%) were receiving benefits.

The number of people seeking work for more than a year was 370, which was also a record high.

The number of people registered as actively seeking work includes people who are on the advance to work, advance plus and workwise schemes.
