Jersey RPI inflation rate drops by half in 2013

  • Published

The rate of inflation in Jersey has fallen by half in 12 months, the latest retail price index (RPI) shows.

RPI was 1.5% for the first half of 2013. It was 3% at the same time in 2012.

It remains well below the UK rate of 3.3% and has been below the UK in 12 of the past 15 quarters.

The report on RPI found the fall in inflation was due to a drop in motoring costs, clothes and footwear.

But food costs rose by 3% on average over the year to June, while fuel and light costs went up by 6%.
