Channel Islands opt-out plan for phone contracts

An opt-out plan for phone contracts will protect customers from changes to their contracts, according to the Channel Islands regulator.

Under the plans customers could break fixed-term contracts if the terms, services or prices change.

Regulator Michael Byrne said it would make mobile, broadband and fixed-line contracts more transparent.

The islands' four phone companies have all asked for the cost of any handset subsidy to be considered.

The proposals, which are subject to a consultation running until 1 May, would see changes to the licence conditions for the four operators - Sure, JT, Newtel and Airtel Vodafone - from 1 June.
