A seaside festival has been cancelled after making a "substantial" financial loss, the organiser has confirmed.

The Jersey Seaside Festival has been held for 10 years and has included live entertainment, music, local art and alfresco dining at Havre des Pas.

Organiser Mario Pirozzolo said: "Over the years the costs have grown to quite an enormous amount."

He said a lack of sponsorship and the stress on a small family business was not sustainable.

Mr Pirozzolo, who first made the announcement on social media on Sunday morning, said: "The 2014 event heralded a substantial loss for my family business and this year was set to manifest a further loss.

"Sponsorship has been extremely difficult to source, and contributions from local business have dwindled down to zero."

He added he would reassess the situation in 2016.
