A three-year-old boy who was hit by a van as he tried to enter a park in Jersey has died.

Clinton Pringle was flown to hospital in Southampton after paramedics were called to Millennium Town Park in St Helier, Jersey, on Monday.

He had been on holiday in the island with his family who come from the UK.

His father Michael Pringle said his death would leave a "gaping hole in the lives and hearts of so many". A driver was later arrested and bailed.

"My wife Stacey and I, along with our extended family and friends - many of whom have travelled to Southampton to be by Clinton's side during his battle for life - are absolutely devastated by his untimely death," he said.

Clinton was "an incredibly strong character" who was "special" to everyone, Mr Pringle said.

Jersey Police said a 38-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of road traffic offences and subsequently bailed.
