A charity spinning event celebrates its 20th and last anniversary this weekend.

The Jay Morris Spinathon was set up in 2003 to raise awareness of cancer and raise money for Jersey Hospice Care.

Jay Morris, a racing cyclist and founding member of the Velo Cycling Club, died aged 30, a few weeks before the first event.

His parents Jenny and Alan Morris said they "couldn't have done it" without support from participants throughout the years.

Mr Morris said the annual event had raised over £250,000 for Jersey Hospice Care and had now reached its natural conclusion.

He said: "It's the 20th time we've done it and we've reached a target over that time of £250,000, so we thought it would be a good time to call it a day.

"We're pleased we've been able to help in some way and the hospice has been able to do what is best for people.

"We thank you all and we couldn't have done it without you."

The event involves volunteers cycling for one hour on a stationary bike at Club Carrefour in St Lawrence.

About 70 people are expected to take part in the final spinathon, including members of staff from Jay's last employer.

Mr Morris said: "We don't know yet what's in store for this Saturday with the final fundraising amount, so we look forward to that."
