Transport officers are being asked to consider a different approach to the proposed one-way system

Plans for a one-way scheme on a St Helier road have been shelved following feedback from residents.

The initial plan was to trial the narrow lower section of St John's Road as one-way in a northbound direction away from Cheapside.

In view of the community's concerns, the minister for infrastructure has asked transport officers to consider different approaches.

It is hoped any new proposal for trialling will be ready for the summer.

Following public feedback, Constable Andy Jehan has asked the transport team to review options, including southbound, and to model potential impacts.

This will be done using up-to-date traffic information, the government said.

St John's Road has "been a concern for residents" due to the pavements and carriageway being narrow, the government said last May.

However, the proposed one-way trial was delayed three times last year.

Originally set to begin in August, it was delayed until October, December and then to the start of this year.

In November, officials said delays were caused by "unforeseen supply and labour issues".
