Ports of Jersey is set to invest £160,000 for two people to start a career in air traffic control.

There are two vacancies for apprentices who will take on a three-year training period fully funded by the ports.

The apprentices will work in Jersey Airport's control tower and handle commercial, military and private aircraft traffic.

Alan Moss, manager of air traffic control, said the two roles "represent a big investment".

At the end of the training the position will be the equivalent of completing a university degree.

The minimum legal age to hold an air traffic controllers' licence is 21 years old, so candidates will need to be at least 21 by 31 August next year.

Mr Moss said: "These two roles represent a big investment, not just financially, but in terms of the personnel required to train and supervise the new recruits."
