Ecuador president dons gas mask as tear gas is fired

A state of emergency has been declared in Ecuador after President Rafael Correa accused the opposition and security forces of a coup attempt.

As tear gas was fired in protests, the president wore a gas mask, but a protester tried to rip it off him.

In a speech to soldiers from Quito's main barracks, President Correa said: "If you want to kill the president, here I am".
