Life either side of the US-Mexico border

President Barack Obama has directed immigration resources to the US border with Mexico as he promised to fix the "broken immigration system" without an "obstructive" Congress.

The move came as Republicans told Mr Obama a sweeping immigration bill passed by the Senate last year will not see a vote in the House this year.

The president's immigration reforms over recent years have angered campaign groups who claim families have been torn apart, as Alastair Leithead reports.
