A porn actor wanted in connection with a grisly murder may have fled North America, Canadian police say.

A human torso was found in a suitcase behind the 29-year-old's Montreal flat.

Police suspect he may have left the country based on evidence found during a search of his flat, and a blog post he wrote about how to disappear.

Montreal Police Commander Ian Lafreniere said there was reason to believe Mr Magnotta may be in a foreign country.

"He left a letter on a website mentioning how to disappear for good, and secondly our investigation brought us some details that might let us think that he could be away from the country," he told reporters.

Unnamed sources say he may have travelled to France, <link> <caption>the Globe and Mail newspaper reports</caption> <url href="http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/national/body-parts-suspect-may-have-gone-to-france-after-killing-sources/article2448275/" platform="highweb"/> </link> .

Police in Canada are still searching for Mr Magnotta, who has family in the Toronto area. A nationwide warrant was issued for his arrest on Wednesday.

Investigators believe they have a video that shows the suspect committing the murder.

On Tuesday a human foot was posted to Prime Minister Stephen Harper's offices, and police intercepted a second parcel, containing a hand, addressed to the Liberal Party's offices.

One of the prime minister's top political advisers opened the bloodstained box at Conservative Party headquarters.

"It was such a horrible odour. I'm sure many of us will not forget it," said a party spokesman, Fred DeLorey.

Montreal police told the BBC they believe the headless torso, hand and foot were from the same body, but were waiting for test results to confirm this.

Police have also said some of the victim's body parts are still missing.

Blood stains were found all over the Montreal apartment, police said.

"For most of the officers that were there all night long this is the kind of crime scene they've never seen in their career," Cmdr Lafreniere told the Associated Press news agency.

Police have not identified the victim but described him as a man in his 30s. They believe that he was in a relationship with Mr Magnotta, <link> <caption>CBC News reported</caption> <url href="http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/montreal/story/2012/05/31/body-parts-killing-suspect.html" platform="highweb"/> </link> .

The suspect, also known as Eric Clinton Newman and Vladimir Romanov, worked as a bisexual porn actor and model, investigators said.

He has been linked to a video posted online in 2010 that showed two kittens being placed in a plastic bag and suffocated.

Police described him as a white male, about 5ft 8in (1.78m) tall with blue eyes and black hair.
