Powerful storms have battered the southern US for a second consecutive day, sweeping through the states of Alabama and, here, in Mississippi.

Buildings were flattened and vehicles overturned as the tornado passed through Tupelo.

For one woman, whose home in Tupelo was completely destroyed, there was some relief when she was reunited with her dog.

Residents of Berry, Alabama, did not escape the storm. Several casualties were reported in the state.

Emergency workers have continued their search for possible victims after the first storms struck on Sunday night.

Many of those killed in Arkansas were in Vilonia.
