Emergency workers are at the scene in New York's popular Times Square, where a car has ploughed in to pedestrians.
One person has died and 19 others were injured, the city's fire department says.
Police said the crash did not appear to be related to terrorism.
A man is in custody and is being tested for alcohol, police said.
