Lady Gaga to debut single at MTV Video Music Awards

Lady Gaga will perform the first single from her new album Artpop for the first time at the MTV Video Music Awards.

The ceremony will take place at Brooklyn's Barclays Centre in New York on Sunday 25 August and will air on MTV in the UK the following day.

In previous years the singer has won 13 Moonmen, as the MTV trophies are known, including best new artist, video of the year and best video with a message.

Artpop, her fourth full-length album, is released in November.

Justin Timberlake and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis lead the nominations for this year's MTV Video Music Awards (VMA).

Both acts are up for six prizes and go head-to-head for the fan-voted video of the year award and in the editing and direction categories.

Justin Timberlake is also nominated for male video, pop video and collaboration with Jay-Z for Suit & Tie.

Macklemore are up for best hip-hop video, video with a social message and the cinematography prize.

Bruno Mars, Pink, Robin Thicke, Miley Cyrus, Taylor Swift, Drake, Calvin Harris, Kendrick Lamar, Capital Cities, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Thirty Seconds to Mars and Fun are also up for more than one nomination.

Lady Gaga was recently named the top earning celebrity under 30 by Forbes.

She also confirmed a new single will be released next month, according to a message on her official Facebook page, external.

The first track off Artpop is out on 19 August.

A smartphone and tablet app will also be available to download which will contain the record plus extra music, videos, chat options and games.

The album and app will both be available to pre-order from 1 September.
