The band

Disclosure are made up of brothers Guy and Howard Lawrence, who grew up in Reigate in Surrey.

The electro-dance duo have been releasing music since late 2010 but it wasn't until October last year when they picked up significant interest.

They went on to record a number two single, White Noise, with Aluna Francis from another breakthrough act of 2013, AlunaGeorge.

Disclosure recently caused a bit of controversy when their video for the latest single off their album Help Me Lose My Mind was removed for depicting drug use.

The album

The brothers' debut album, Settle, was released at the end of May on Island Records.

It went straight to the top of the UK album chart and had success in America as well, getting to number two in the dance chart.

Despite being fairly new to the scene, they have had a number of impressive collaborations on the album.

Guest vocalists include Jessie Ware on Confess To Me and Friendly Fires frontman Ed Macfarlane on Defeated No More.

They say the nomination for the album and their success has been surreal.

"It's hard to digest it when you are in the thick of it," Guy explained.

"We've been having a lot of fun, we've done 43 festivals this summer and we're about to head off on a world tour.

"It's just been an amazing year and to have a number one album as well, we couldn't ask for any more."

What the judges say

"You feel like they are going to do what they want to do," said Simon Frith, head of the judging panel for the Mercury Prize.

"By chance it sounds perfect on the dance floor. You get the sense they are working out what will sound perfect.

"For me it's sort of fantastic integration of pop music, catchy tunes and sort of sense of life and cheek and vitality coupled with the kind of grooves that do make people dance."

The odds

For many, Disclosure are the favourites as arguably no act like them has won the award before.

The bookies have odds of 3/1 for the Lawrence brothers.

The winner will be announced on 30 October at a ceremony at the Roundhouse in London.
