The government says they are increasingly worried about the number of young British men and women travelling to the Middle East to fight with the militant group Islamic State.

Police estimate around 500 have left the UK in the past three years.

Newsbeat spoke with Karim while he was on his way to the job centre in East London. He says being Muslim "makes life better" and his faith comes before everything else. He said "if push comes to shove I would definitely go" fight with IS.

We've had a big reaction to this interview from people saying Karim's views don't represent what the majority of Muslim's think.

Newsbeat listeners' reaction

"The chap who "wouldn't rule out killing" for Islam sounds like exactly the problem demographic. The uneducated, unemployed, aimless and suggestible young men who have such restricted social mobility to a point where it causes anger and resentment to manifest, and in the absence of being able to target their feelings at a particular individual, system or government the idea of glorified martyrism (sic) for any cause provides them with a purpose."

"If they want to fight, let them go, take away their passports, don't let them back in the country. If they try and come back put them in prison for terrorism/ war crimes or even treason. Wearing a mask makes them cowards if they really believed what they were saying go on film let everyone see who you are."

Steve

"If it's true that Islam is a peaceful religion then why does it attract so many people that are full of hate and anger."

"That man has no idea what the fight is about. It's that stupidity in individuals that is one of the many problems. Islam, like any other religion, does not condone violence in any way, shape or form!!

"I believe everyone has the right to exercise their religion and faith. That is up to a point where it starts to endanger and impact peoples lives. I oppose military intervention as much as possible. IS a posing too much of a threat. I believe they need to be dealt with because this is starting to look like a crusade."

"Why do we give these people airtime, that guy couldn't justify anything he said"

Paul , Fife

"Disgusted with the news report where the British Muslim would go fight."

One of my closest friends is a Muslim and it's so unfair that the group is using the name of the religion to justify what they're doing. It's not Muslim teachings it wrong and evil. Muslim teachings is not terrosim and people need to remember that and not paint everyone with the same brush and this is coming from a Christian.
