Will Smith, a former player for the New Orleans Saints, has been shot and killed following a car crash.
The 34-year-old died of "multiple gunshot wounds", New Orleans city coroner Jeffrey C Rouse said.

Smith was involved in an accident with another car. Police said the driver of that vehicle then shot Smith and has now been taken into custody.

"Will was more than an exceptional football player he was a father, a husband, a son, a brother and teammate to so many and an inspiration to countless more."
He and his wife have three children - Wynter, William and Lisa.

Smith was driving a Mercedes late on Saturday when his car was hit from behind by an orange Hummer H2, police said.
Smith's Mercedes then hit another car in front of it, which was carrying two of his friends. They were not injured.
Police said Smith and the driver of the Hummer exchanged words and then the Hummer driver pulled out a gun and shot Smith more than once.
When police arrived they found Smith partly in his car and partly in the street. He died at the scene.
The 30-year-old driver of the Hummer has been arrested and is being interviewed by detectives. The weapon has also been recovered.
Smith, who played defensive end, spent 10 years with the Saints.
He led them with a career-high 13 sacks in 2009, when the club won its only Super Bowl. He played his last NFL game in 2012, going on to suffer a knee during the 2013 preseason.
Social media posts suggest he was attending the New Orleans French Quarter festival this weekend.
The annual event celebrates local food and music.
