261 schools get building money from government

A total of 261 schools in England have been told they're getting money to repair or rebuild their old buildings.

The government has announced which schools are being given a slice of a £2 billion pot of cash.

But 326 schools missed out in the Priority School Building Programme.

The previous government had promised to rebuild every secondary school in England. But the new government cancelled it, saying it was too expensive.

The axed Building Schools for the Future programme was expected to cost around £55 billion.

Highfurlong School in Blackpool, which Newsround visited last year, is one of the schools being told it's getting money to repair their buildings.

The government said some schools that didn't get money may still get work done using other funds.
