Hunger Games star says ban the word "fat" on TV

The Hunger Games actress Jennifer Lawrence has said it should be illegal to call people fat on TV.

In an interview in America she said she was concerned over how much young girls in particular can be affected by media attitudes towards size.

She told US TV host Barbara Walters: "The media needs to take responsibility for the effect it has on our younger generation."

It's not the first time she's spoken out on the subject.

Back at school

In the past she's said she was obese by Hollywood standards and last month she told the BBC that hearing negative reports about her own appearance was like being back at school.

Speaking to the ABC network in the US she added: "

"If we're regulating cigarettes ... and cuss words because of the effect they have..why aren't we regulating things like calling people fat?"

"Because why is humiliating people funny? I get it and I do it too, we all do it.

"So then all of a sudden being funny is making fun of the girl that's wearing an ugly dress ... and the word fat. I just think it should be illegal to call somebody fat on TV."
