How have the lives of children changed after three years of war in Ukraine?

The country has been fighting Russia since 24 February 2022, when the Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered a full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

In a special episode of BBC Ukrainecast, a podcast that helps to explain the biggest issues surrounding the conflict, Newsround has been putting your questions to the experts to find out more about how the war has impacted families and children.

Over 80 school pupils, made up of British and Ukrainian children, were in the audience as host Victoria Derbyshire and her panel – including Ricky from Newsround - shared their insights and heard from children affected.

Alongside Ricky in the panel were the BBC's Ukraine Correspondent James Waterhouse and Ukrainecast's Vitaly Shevchenko.

Ricky visited Ukraine for Newsround in 2023, and during the podcast he shared some of the stories from his reporting, as well as from children he has met since.

He heard from kids like Maryna, who fled the war with her family to the UK, where she keeps in touch with her grandma living in Ukraine.

Ukrainecast: A special episode with Newsround is a guide, for both children and adults, to the war in Ukraine – viewing it through the eyes of children and exploring how the conflict has directly shaped their childhood.
