The Nasa spacecraft that completed a flyby past Pluto has made contact with earth.

The New Horizons probe got in touch with mission headquarters in Maryland in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

It let controllers know that the flyby has been completed and that the spacecraft has survived the encounter.

The latest pictures released should show us the most detailed look at Pluto ever seen.

However, most of the research will take around 16 months to be looked at by the scientists.
