It was a great night for Justin Bieber who scooped three awards, for Best Canadian Act, Biggest Fans and Best Song for 'Sorry'.

The Weekend won Best Video for 'Starboy' featuring Daft Punk.

Lady Gaga, who wasn't at the awards, also scooped two awards, for Best Female and Best Look.

Shawn Mendes beat the likes of Justin Bieber and Drake to win the Best Male Award.

Twenty One Pilots won Best Live and Best Alternative Act.

Zara Larsson took the award for Best New Act.

Fifth Harmony beat Justin Bieber and Rihanna to win Best Pop Act.

Best UK and Ireland Act went to Little Mix, who beat Zayn Malik, Adele, Coldplay and Years And Years.

The Best Hip Hop act went to Drake. The Canadian beat the likes of Kanye West and Wiz Khalifa.

Best Rock Act went to Coldplay, who beat Metallica and Green Day to the award.

Martin Garrix found himself collecting two awards, one for Best World Stage act and for Best Electronic act.

American rock band Green Day were given the global icon prize for their contribution to music.

This year's EMA trophy was given a purple overhaul in honour of singer Prince who died earlier this year.
