The 2017 Oscars ceremony began once the stars had taken their seats at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, USA.

Justin Timberlake kicked the show off with a performance of his Oscar-nominated song Can't Stop The Feeling from the animated film, Trolls.

Zootropolis won the award for Best Animated Feature Film award. The team who made it posed in the press room with their Oscars. Left to right: co-directors Byron Howard, Rich Moore and producer Clark Spencer. Actors Hailee Steinfeld (far-left) and Gael Garcia Bernal (far-right) presented them with their awards.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them won the Oscar for Best Costume Design. It was designer Colleen Atwood's fourth Oscar win.

The Jungle Book won the Oscar for Best Visual Effects, with the film's visual effects artists Dan Lemmon, Andrew R. Jones, Adam Valdez and Robert Legato, picking up their golden trophies.

Just in case the audience needed a bite to eat, small parcels of sweets fell from the ceiling.

The biggest story of the night came right at the end with the announcement that Moonlight had been awarded best picture.

The award was initially given to La La Land as the wrong envelope had been handed to actor Warren Beatty who was presenting the award! Oops!

There was a lot of confusion for a few moments before Jordan Horowitz of La La Land graciously announced it should have gone to Moonlight.

Order was restored as the cast and crew of Moonlight took to the stage to accept the award.

Host Jimmy Kimmel organised for people taking an Los Angeles bus tour to appear at the awards show as a surprise. Two of the guests told Kimmel they're getting married in December, so he got actor Denzel Washington to perform an spontaneous ceremony in the front row of the theatre. Thank goodness she had a seflie stick!

La La Land took seven awards including one to Emma Stone for best actress. It's her first Oscar win, although she has been nominated once before. Hollywood rumours say she will play Cruella De Vil in the coming remake of 101 Dalmations.

The four winners of the individual actor awards lined up in the press room. Left to right: Best supporting actor Mahershala Ali, best actress Emma Stone, best supporting actress Viola Davis and best actor Casey Affleck.
