Strictly Come Dancing stars glam up for glittering launch show

Dust off your dancing shoes and get out your glitterball because Strictly's back!

All of the celebrities and their partners have been matched up and have been hard at work training for the live shows which started on Saturday 23rd September.

New head judge Shirley Ballas has proved she's tough on technical details but as encouraging as former head judge Len Goodman used to be.

So who is still in the running to claim this year's glitterball trophy?

WHO'S STILL IN THE SHOW?

Alexandra Burke

Singer Alexandra Burke, who is currently performing on stage in the West End in London, has said that she is "so excited" to be joining Strictly

Alexandra is one of the front runners in the competition. The judges have said her musical background really shows when she dances.

Did you know? In 2008 she won X Factor, after an epic duet with Beyoncé. She went on to sell over 4 million records, in the UK alone, making her one of the show's most successful stars.

Debbie McGee

Debbie is going to be dancing with Giovanni Pernice

Next up is TV personality and presenter Debbie McGee.

Debbie said, "There are no words to describe how I feel about performing on Strictly Come Dancing. The excitement is overwhelming. I can't stop smiling. It's been the hardest secret I have ever had to keep!"

Debbie has been consistently good and got the first 40 of the series for her intense tango routine with Giovanni.

Ore would agree with you there, Debbie!

Did you know? Debbie loves ballet and in 2000 she fulfilled a lifelong dream of becoming the Artistic Director and Choreographer of the classical ballet company, Ballet Imaginaire.

Joe McFadden

Joe is an actor, and probably best know for playing the role of Raf di Lucca in Holby City.

He really impressed with a creepy spider inspired routine on the Halloween special.

Did you know? Joe has a much-loved cockapoo called Douglas.

Gemma Atkinson

Gemma Atkinson will be dancing with Alijaz Skorjanec

Gemma Atkinson stars in Emmerdale as Carly Hope and used to be in Hollyoaks.

She said: "I'm beyond excited and incredibly nervous but I am looking forward to learning a new skill and taking on this new challenge."

Did you know? Getting fit for Strictly won't be a problem for Gemma - she loves the gym! Gemma says she works out six times a week and is pretty good at kick boxing.

Mollie King

Mollie King will dance with AJ Pritchard

Mollie King from The Saturdays was the first celebrity dancer confirmed to be taking part in Strictly.

She told Nick Grimshaw on Radio 1's breakfast show that it's "something that I always said I wanted to do.... I'm going to be giving it my all."

She has faced the dance off a couple of times so far but has scraped through so far.

Did you know? When she was 11, Mollie was a member of the British Children's Ski Team. She got a scholarship to the British Ski Academy and later even skied for the British Alpine squad.

Davood Ghadami

Davood will be joining the Strictly line up along with Nadiya Dychkova

Davood is a familiar face for EastEnders fans, where he plays the character of Kush Kazemi.

He has impressed the judges with his strength and a mega one handed lift where he held partner Nadiya above his head.

Did you know? Davood is one of 21 EastEnders actors to compete in Strictly Come Dancing!

Chizzy Akudolu

Chizzy was paired with Pasha Kovalev

The former Holby City actor said: "When I was 13, I made the finals of a disco dancing competition once but there was this amazing girl who exploded onto the stage with a gorgeous sequined costume, throwing glitter everywhere.

Chizzy was paired with Pasha Kovalev but they were the first couple to be voted off.

Did you know? She joined her fellow Holby and Casualty peers for a performance of Bruno Mars' Uptown Funk on Let's Sing and Dance for Comic Relief in 2017.

Reverend Richard Coles

Richard Coles was paired with Dianna Buswell

Richard was the second dancer to get voted off this year's Strictly.

He is the Vicar of St Mary's Church in Finedon, Northamptonshire and Chancellor of the University of Northampton.

Away from his church duties, Richard hosts a show on Radio 4 and has appeared on several TV programmes.

Did you know? Before he joined the church, Rev Cole was in a band called The Communards, who's best known song is Don't Leave Me This Way (you'll know it when you hear it!). It even went to number one in the UK and four other countries!

Charlotte Hawkins

Charlotte will be dancing with Brendan Cole

Charlotte is a journalist and one of the presenters on ITV's breakfast show Good Morning Britain.

Charlotte and Brendan tried very difficult routines but were voted off in week 4.

Did you know? To get to work in time for her early morning show, Charlotte has to set her alarm clock for 2.40am every morning. Ouch!

Brian Conley

Brian Conley will be dancing with Amy Dowden

Comedian, actor and television presenter Brian Conley says, "I'm delighted and honoured to be asked to strut my stuff on this year's Strictly."

Brian and his partner Amy Dowden were voted off in the dance off in week 5.

Did you know? Brian started acting at the age of 12! He's also played in big musicals: he was Caractacus Potts in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and Fagin, in Oliver!

Simon Rimmer

Simon Rimmer will be dancing with last year's champ Karen Clifton

Chef Simon Rimmer added some spice to the Strictly line up before being voted off.

He is best-known for being the chef and co-presenter on Channel 4's Sunday Brunch.

Simon became the fifth celebrity to leave Strictly Come Dancing in week 6.

He lost the dreaded dance off to singer Mollie King in the spook-tacular Halloween Special.

Did you know? Despite being a chef, Simon originally studied fashion and textile design and used to sell textile designs in Japan, the States and Europe and even produced a range of hand-painted pottery!

Aston Merrigold

Aston is a singer and songwriter, best-known for being a member of the successful British band JLS.

Aston did really well until this week when his routine failed to impress.

Head judge Shirley controversially chose to save Mollie in the dance off instead of Aston.

Some people were shocked and angry that Aston was voted off so soon in the competition.

Did you know? Aston's already famous for his slick moves and on-stage acrobatics. He's even judged a dancing contest - Sky 1's Got to Dance alongside Kimberly Wyatt and Ashley Banjo.

Ruth Langsford

Ruth has been partnered up with Anton Du Beke

Ruth Langsford is used to presenting on daytime TV programmes like This Morning and Loose Women.

Ruth and Anton have been having lots of fun and bringing a bit of humour to the dance floor.

Ruth Langsford was voted off Strictly in week 8.

Did you know? Ruth was born in Singapore. As a child in an army family, Ruth lived in five countries before the age of 10 ranging from Germany to North Africa, before finally settling in Cornwall.

Jonnie Peacock

Jonnie is dancing with Oti Mabuse

The double Paralympic, World and European T44 100m Champion will be the first contestant with a disability to take part in the main show - an opportunity which Jonnie said was "too good to turn down".

Jonnie has enjoyed working with Oti and dressed as a pirate for the Halloween special.

He left the competition after losing the dance off against Debbie McGee during the Blackpool special in week 9.

Did you know? Most of Jonnie's Strictly knowledge from his Mum, Nan and sisters, who are massive fans of the show.

Susan Calman

Susan was the ninth celeb to leave the show, after a dance off against Alexandra Burke.

Susan's a comedian from Scotland. You probably recognise her as the presenter of the CBBC game show Top Class.

Susan was mega-excited to be on Strictly and said "I have been a Strictly super-fan for years. This is going to be the best ride possible."

Did you know? Susan said she hadn't worn a dress since she was 17! And standing at 4 foot 11 inches, Susan's the shortest celeb to hit the dance floor this year.
