Firefighters and the Army are trying to tackle huge fires on moorlands in Greater Manchester.

The fires have become so big that smoke can be seen for miles and the blazes are also visible from space.

The first fire broke out on Sunday 24 June at Saddleworth Moor and the warm weather has allowed the fires to keep burning and spread.

The Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service says it could take weeks to put out.

Now soldiers and firefighters from across the UK have come to help Manchester's fire squads with the blazes.

Elsewhere two other fires have merged at Winter Hill and Scout Road near Bolton, blown by strong winds.

No one has been hurt but people living nearby have been told to keep their windows and doors shut and try to stay away from the area.

It's also meant some schools have been closed.

Police have described it as a "major incident".

The fire service has said they're "not confident" they will be able to find out how the fires began because they're now so big.
