Gamers in China will soon have to prove their age and identity so that they can keep playing video games for longer.

Under new rules, players who are under 12 will only be able to play for an hour a day. Older children will be allowed to play for up to two hours, but will not be able to play past a certain point in the evening.

It will mainly affect children trying to play games from an entertainment company Tencent.

Earlier this year, they introduced a registration system for their hugely popular game 'Honour of Kings'.

They will have to register their Chinese IDs against a police data base, in order to play games from the company.

The company has faced criticism before after reports that students were ditching their homework to play mobile video games

Some parents put a limit on the amount of time kids spend on their consoles.
