World Smile Day: What is it, and how did it begin?

On the first Friday in October every year, people celebrate World Smile Day.
It's a great chance to think about what makes you smile, and maybe draw some smiley faces to bring your friends some cheer.
The day comes from the artist behind the iconic yellow smiley face, who decided we needed a day to celebrate smiles.
What makes you smile? Let us know in the comments at the bottom of the page.
In 1963, an artist called Harvey Ball in the USA created a big yellow smiley face.
It became really popular - but over time Harvey became worried that it was losing its meaning.
He set up World Smile Day, so everyone could dedicate one day a year to acts of kindness and making other people smile.
This year's takes place on 6 October.
How can I celebrate World Smile Day?
The motto of the day is "do an act of kindness. Help one person smile!" - so try do something to make someone happy.
You could do a favour for a friend, catch up with someone you haven't spoken to in a while, or maybe do something for a member of your family.
If you like to be creative, maybe you could make some art with smiley faces, and put it up somewhere to make someone smile.
What makes you smile the most?
It can be a really big thing like going on holiday with your family, or something tiny - like someone saying thank you when you do a nice thing for them.
