Taylor Swift took home the top prize of Artist of the Year. It's the third year in a row that she's won it. Not only that, but she also won Music Video of the Year and Favourite Pop/Rock Female Artist. She holds the record for the most AMA career wins by a single artist with a total of 32 awards. This year Taylor couldn't accept the award in person because she said she was re-recording music from earlier in her career.

Another big winner was Justin Bieber. He joined Shawn Mendes for a socially-distanced performance of their new single Monster, while Justin also performed his other singles Lonely and Holy. Justin was crowned Favourite Male Pop Artist. His song 10,000 Hours with Dan + Shay also won Favourite Country Song and Collaboration of the Year.

BTS won two awards; Favourite Social Artist and Pop/Rock Duo/Group. The K-Pop band accepted the prizes from South Korea. They also closed the show with a performance from their home country.

Harry Styles won Favourite Album with Fine Line which beat Taylor Swift's Folklore. It's his first American Music Award as a solo artist.

Dua Lipa took home Favourite Song in the pop/rock category. She also performed her single Levitating and even appeared to float up off the stage at one point! To keep in line with current social-distancing guidelines she live-streamed her performance from London.
