After vowing to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States, Joe Biden has officially been sworn in as the 46th US president. He took the oath of office on a Bible that has been in his family since 1893
Kamala Harris is sworn in as vice-president as her husband Doug Emhoff holds the Bible. She is the first woman, as well as the first black and South Asian American, to serve as US vice-president
Pop superstar Lady Gaga sings the American National Anthem at the event. Singers Jennifer Lopez and Garth Crooks also performed during the ceremony

After the inauguration ceremony. the Bidens and the Harris family took part in a parade lead by marching bands. They walked from the Capitol building, where they swore their oaths, and the White House.
On arrival at the White House, Joe Biden and first Lady Jill Biden waved to the media and to supporters from the steps of the President's traditional home.
Mr Biden got to work straight away making changes to some of Mr Trump's policies. He sat at the famous desk in the Oval Office of the White House, the President's place of work.
Later in the evening there were firework displays all over the US capital, Washington DC's most famous buildings including the White House itself.
