Gianpiero Ferrari won this year's Bird Photographer of the Year competition, with this picture of a fieldfare bird. He snapped the photo after a night of snow and he left an apple in his garden for the birds. Ferrari said: "I had to build a pile of snow to use as a background and then lay on the ground under a camouflage blanket, waiting for the bird to return to eat the apples."

How amazing is this picture? Kevin Rooney took this of the oxpecker bird cleaning the nose of a buffalo in Mara North Conservancy in Kenya. He said: "We were sat in a land cruiser amongst a huge herd of buffalo watching the oxpeckers fly from one to another cleaning flies and ticks from the noses, eyes and ears of the buffalo."
