It's one of the biggest races in UK pop music and this year an oldie has come good finally.

Last Christmas by Eighties boyband Wham has finally made it to Christmas Number One.

The winner is decided by a combination of downloads, sales and streams and the result was announced on 22 December.

UK fans streamed the song 13.3 million times, making it the most-played song ever during Christmas week. It's also UK's third-biggest song of all time, with a lifetime total of 5.34 million chart units - a measure that combines streams and sales.

Although it has been number one before this is the first time it will have been top of the charts on Christmas Day.

First released in 1984, Last Christmas was originally held off the top spot by Band Aid's charity single Do They Know It's Christmas?

Wham member Andrew Ridgeley said: "It's marvellous and humbling to have got there... Top of the pile is a great place to be."

The top five also feature Sam Ryder's new Christmas song You're Christmas To Me, Mariah Carey's All I Want For Christmas Is You and Merry Christmas by Ed Sheeran and Elton John.
