Every year the zookeepers count up and record all the animals in their care, as part of their license requirement. The zoo is home to more than 300 different species from these Humboldt penguins, to camels, axolotl's and flamingos. The conservation zoo works to protect and restore wildlife in the UK and around the world.

Take a look at Sumatran tiger Zac who took an interest in the stocktake tally board. The zoo said: "During the count, Crispin and Zac, the Zoo's two boisterous Sumatran tiger cubs, quickly turned the register in their enclosure into a toy, dragging it away to gnaw on."

Zookeeper Kim Carter counts these two giant Galapagos tortoises. The information from the annual count is shared with zoos around the world, to help manage the worldwide conservation breeding programmes for endangered animals.

Luckily zookeeper Becca Keefe doesn't need to count the stripes on these zebras! These three Chapman zebra's Kabibi, Kianga and Spot were added to the tally.

It's not just the big animals that need to be counted, even the tiny ones too like this Seychelles millipede. This species is under threat in the wild because of climate change and the introduction of invasive species.

This looks like a great job, sat counting all the Humboldt penguins swimming by. Zookeeper Jessica counted 74 at the zoo. These penguins are usually found in South American countries like Chile and Peru, and they can reach up to 30 miles per hour in the water.
