The first Women's Super League collection of Panini football stickers has sold out online, due to huge demand, the company says.

Speaking to Newsround, a spokesperson from Panini said: "It's just the sheer popularity of the collection.

"Stock is flying off the shelves quicker than we can replenish it."

Panini say millions of the stickers have been sold since they were first released in December.

They feature players from teams currently in the WSL and icons from the women's game.

Shops such as Argos, WH Smiths, Toys R Us, Smyths, as well as Panini itself, have all shown the stickers as being out of stock in their online stores this week.

Panini says while there isn't a shortage of stickers for sale, it has prioritised resupplying high-street shops first, so the stickers can be displayed on shelves.

"We have prioritised bricks and mortar retailers to make the product accessible immediately for collectors," the Italian-based company said.

Sticker packs are flying off the shelves, the company says

Panini said it hoped to be able to restock online stores soon adding: "It's been an incredible response and we're delighted to have been able to bring this level of excitement and engagement to the first ever Women's Super League Sticker Collection."

It would not say how many WSL stickers had been produced in comparison to the amount of stickers on sale for the men's Premier League, but said: "Rest assured, we are talking millions of packets on the WSL collection."

"The Premier League sticker collection has built its following over several years so is not comparable," it added.

There has been an increase in attendances for the WSL, won by Chelsea in 2022-23

Panini has been publishing sticker albums since 1970 and created its first women's football collection for the 2011 World Cup.

The Women's Super League has been growing in popularity in recent years and The Football Association announced a 170% increase in WSL attendances last season.

The Lionesses' victory at Euro 2022, and reaching the World Cup final in 2023, has been credited as having had a big influence on the WSL surge in popularity.
