It's week six of The Masked Singer, and we've certainly had our fair share of surprises so far this series!

This Saturday we saw even more excitement with the first double elimination of the series.

It was time to say goodbye to both Dippy Egg and Maypole.

Maypole was revealed as Pussycat Dolls singer Melody Thornton, while Dippy Egg was unmasked as presenter and journalist Nicky Campbell.

Judge Davina McCall ran across the stage screaming after discovering, saying how shocked she was to see her friend Nicky as one of the contestants.

Presenter Joel Dommett joked, "I've never seen you like this, Davina. This is insane!"

Davina and Nicky both co-host ITV show Long Lost Families, but Davina had no idea he would also be joining her on the Masked Singer.

After returning to the panel, McCall was seen fighting back tears, and said it was the "best surprise… better than any birthday".

She added:"I love this man! Nicky's a friend, we've been working together for 13 years and I can not believe I didn't recognise your voice, I didn't recognise your singing voice. I know your singing voice!"

Nicky said that secretly performing in front of McCall had also been "emotional" for him.

"It was incredible. I was emotional all the way through just trying to see her through the mask," he said.

"Each performance, I could just sort of make her out, and I was thinking, 'It's so near, yet so far away!'"

Melody Thornton also managed to avoid being correctly identified, with the judges guessing she was singers Janelle Monáe, Katy B or her fellow Pussycat Dolls bandmate Kimberley Wyatt.

After she was revealed judge Rita Ora remarked: "Now hearing your voice and tone of course it's you."

Melody has previously won the Australian series, and said she had also loved taking part this time in the UK version.

After being revealed she told the judges and audience: "I think that the thing about this show is that it's all positive. You actually just get to have fun, and it's been lovely bringing this character to life!

"It's been fun! Maypole is such a sweetheart."
