Thousands of people are on their way to a big farm in Somerset to sing, dance, and celebrate all kinds of music.

When is the Glastonbury festival in 2025?

The Glastonbury Festival in 2025 is happening from Wednesday 25 June to Sunday 29 June. That's five whole days of music, (mud?), dancing and fun!

The festival is the biggest and arguably the most famous music event in the UK with people travelling from all over the world to attend.

This year will be last festival before a gap year in 2026 to let the field recover.

Where is the Glastonbury Festival?

Glastonbury takes place at Worthy Farm in Pilton, a small village in Somerset, England.

It's a real working dairy farm owned by the Eavis family who also run and organise the huge music event.

When the festival isn't happening, the location is full of cows but in June, it transforms into a giant music city with stages, tents, art, and more than 200,000 people.

While the festival is taking place, the cows are moved to a special area to keep safe called the "Moo-tel", which is basically a large shed with food and water.

After the festival is over, an army of volunteers, some of whom are nicknamed 'The Wombles' after an old children's book and TV series, head down to the festival to help the HUGE tidy up.

Who is headlining Glastonbury Festival in 2025?

The headline acts for Glastonbury 2025 are The 1975, Neil Young, and Olivia Rodrigo who will each perform on the main Pyramid Stage on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

It's the first time The 1975 will be headlining at Glastonbury. Olivia Rodrigo is the Sunday headliner and will become the second youngest headliner ever at the festival and the first to have released her debut single this decade.

Billie Eilish became the youngest ever Glastonbury headliner at the age of 20 in 2022.

What is the weather forecast for Glastonbury 2025?

Good news, the weather for Glastonbury this year is looking mostly warm and sunny, with some rain expected on Thursday.

Temperatures will range from around 20C to 25C, so festival-goers should bring sunscreen - but maybe pack wellies too, just in case.

In 1997 and 2005, the festival was hit with massive rainstorms. And in 2007, the wettest year in the festival's history, it rained so much that people had to wade through mud nearly up to their knees.

But festival-goers didn't let that stop them from having a great time.

When was the first Glastonbury?

The first Glastonbury Festival took place on 19 September 1970, almost 55 years ago.

It was originally called the Pilton Pop, Blues & Folk Festival and about 1,500 people attended.

A ticket cost £1, which even included free milk from the farm's cows.

The festival was started by Michael Eavis, who still helps run it today with his daughter and his family at Worthy Farm.

In 1970, recent chart-toppers The Kinks and Wayne Fontana were advertised on the tickets as the headline acts, although both pulled out.

They were replaced by a band called T. Rex, who were one of the biggest groups in the UK in the early 1970s.

How loud is Glastonbury?

The Killers' 'Mr Brightside' performance in 2019 was the loudest Glastonbury has ever heard, reaching 106 decibels.

That's not as loud as a jet plane, but louder than a lawn mower.

Despite that volume, the festival stayed within legal limits for noise outside the site thanks to modern sound monitoring systems.

Locals have said that the sound carries for miles, so perhaps if you live in the area you could open your bedroom window to enjoy the music for free.
