The Professional Footballers' Association (PFA) held their star-studded awards to celebrate the best players of the 2023-24 season on Tuesday.

The winners are voted for by other players, meaning it gives footballers the chance to be recognised for their achievements by different teams.

Manchester City forward Khadija Shaw, who was the top scorer in the Women's Super League (WSL), took home the biggest award - Player of the Year.

A Manchester City player also won the men's Player of the Year title, with the trophy going to midfielder and England player Phil Foden.

The PFA also celebrated the young players of the year, named as Grace Clinton (on loan to Tottenham Hotspur) and Chelsea's Cole Palmer.

Last season, Clinton made her first international appearance for the Lionesses, with Palmer also appearing for England in this year's Euros.

Speaking to the BBC after winning the player of the year award, Khadija Shaw was surprised by the scale of it all: "I didn't know [the trophy] was going to be this big, but I'll see where it can go!"

Shaw said: "From a young girl growing up, I always had a dream - and that dream was to be the best that I can be. Each and every day I tried to do that, not just on the field but off the field."

There were also wins in the PFA Merit Awards for two sports success stories.

Defender Dean Lewington won after breaking the English record for most league appearances in a single club.

On Boxing Day last year, he made his 771st appearance for MK Dons last season in their win over Colchester United.

Fara Williams got her Merit Award after becoming the most capped England player in history - making 177 appearances and scoring 40 goals for the Lionesses.
