Imagine waking up to a boat in your garden.

A man in Norway opened his curtains on Thursday morning to find a 135 metre-long container ship had run aground right next to his house.

The huge ship missed Johan Helberg's bedroom by just a few metres.

It took some time for Mr Helberg to realise what had happened as he was asleep when the ship made its unexpected arrival.

He was eventually alerted to the near miss thanks to a neighbour.

"The doorbell rang at a time when I don't really like opening the door, so I went back to sleep," Mr Helberg said.

"Five metres further south and [the ship] would've entered the bedroom and that wouldn't have been pleasant," he added.

No-one was injured by the boat and police have started an investigation into what happened.

One man onboard the ship has been charged in connection with the incident.
