Shrek 5 announced - when is it out and who's in it?

Shrek and Donkey are set to return...

It's been a long 14 years since the last Shrek film, Shrek Forever After, was released and back then many thought it would be the final film.

The Shrek films have been massive successes, with the first film taking 487million dollars from ticket sales worldwide and the second reaching almost a billion dollars globally.

After that, more films followed including spin-off films centred around Puss in Boots and even a stage musical.

Well, now the loveable green ogre is set to return, along with many of his friends, so read on to find out more about the fifth Shrek film.

What is the release date for Shrek 5?

Don't get too excited as, although Shrek 5 is already in production , it won't be hitting cinemas until the far far away date of 1 July 2026.

That will be 16 years after the last film was released in 2010.

DreamWorks Animation, the production company behind the films, made the announcement about the new film on Wednesday.

What's the plot of Shrek 5?

Although we know Shrek 5 is a direct sequel to Shrek Forever After, no story details have been released, but as soon as we have them we will let you know!
