Underwater Photographer of the Year 2025: Take a look at these amazing pictures!

Spanish photographer Alvaro Herrero has been named Underwater Photographer of the Year 2025 for this incredible photo of a humpback whale with her new calf. The striking image, taken in French Polynesia, beat 6750 other underwater pictures entered by talented underwater photographers from all across the world for the top prize.

There were several other winners in the international categories including this one of an adorable seal which was snapped in North Devon. The photographer stayed in the area for two months last year, exploring different locations. This shot shows a grey seal off Lundy Island, a marine protected area.

What a funny looking fella! The thirsty camel was photographed having a much-needed refreshing drink in Kuwait. It took the photographer several weeks to get the best shots as the camels were a bit hesitant to drink while the camera was in the water. However, after a few days, the animals finally accepted the photographer and their equipment.

Have you ever seen fish like this before? This pair of male Asian sheepshead wrasse were captured fighting in Sado, Niigata in Japan. The male fish form harems, which are groups of female fish, and claim territories during the breeding season. The fish on the left in the photo is the harem king, who has defended his territory for more than 10 years and is estimated to be over 30 years old, while the one on the right is a young challenger.
