New 5p coin features King Charles III for first time

The first 5p coins to feature a picture of King Charles III will soon be released.
It's the first time the UK's smallest coin has been updated in 17 years.
The Royal Mint - who make the UK's coins and banknotes - said around 23.2 million King Charles 5p coins will soon be in use around the UK.
The new coin design will also feature an oak tree leaf design on the reverse, or the 'tails' side, to share the King's passion for nature and conservation.

The new 5p design will be dated October 2023, as this is when they were minted - or made.
Of the 24.605 billion different coins currently being used in the UK, only around 0.2% feature a picture of King Charles.
The new 5p coins are the third coin to feature King Charles, following the 50p released in 2022, and the £1 coin in 2024.
Don't worry if you still have coins with a picture of Queen Elizabeth II on them though - the Royal Mint say you will still be able to spend them.
