Firefighters attended multiple fires in the Mourne Mountains over the weekend

Emergency services have been tackling fires in Scotland and Northern Ireland over the weekend.

Firefighters have been helping put out wildfires in a large part of forest in Galloway and in the West Highlands in Scotland.

In County Down in Northern Ireland, people who live close to the blaze were moved to safety.

The UK's weather service, the Met Office, has put in wildfire warnings for parts of England, southern Scotland and Northern Ireland until Monday as the weather is set to stay warm and dry.

People living close by, including near Loch Doon, have been advised to keep windows and doors closed.

The Scottish Government held an emergency meeting last night and have urged people to stay away from the area.

Firefighters are also tackling another wild blaze in the west Highlands near Ullapool.

Emergency teams were first called to the blaze in Galloway, in the south-west of Scotland, last Thursday.

People and properties were evacuated, or moved to safety, as the wildfire spread over a large area of forest.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) said two crews remained on the scene late on Sunday afternoon, with helicopters continuing to dump water onto the affected area.

A number of wildfires have been reported in the area around the Mourne Mountains in recent weeks

In Northern Ireland, a major incident was declared after a large wildfire broke out in County Down on Saturday afternoon.

More than 100 firefighters worked throughout the night to bring the fire under control in the Mourne Mountains, which attract thousands of walkers and climbers every weekend.

A number of homes were also evacuated.

Police say they believed this fire was started on purpose, and a man has been arrested as part of their investigation.

Separately, on Sunday morning, there were also wildfires reported around the town of Newcastle, as well as in a forest in County Antrim.

Emergency services have asked members of the public not to travel to the area.
