While they're flying high in the Premier League, Liverpool faced disappointment on Tuesday when they were knocked out of the Champions League by Paris St-Germain (PSG).

The Reds went 0-1 down in the early stages of the match against the French side, but with the final score after two legs 1-1, it was to be decided on penalties.

PSG keeper Gianluigi Donnarumma saved penalties from Liverpool's Darwin Nunez and Curtis Jones, leaving PSG's Desire Doue to to seal a 4-1 win.

Nunez was comforted by his head coach and teammates after the miss.

Despite being knocked out at the last 16 stage, Liverpool boss Arne Slot said it was "the best game of football I have ever been involved in".

Liverpool don't have long to recover as they are facing Newcastle in the Carabao Cup Final at the weekend.

Scotland international Andy Robertson said the focus will turn to this weekend's big game as he added: "It wasn't meant to be and we need to dust ourselves down.

"We always bounce back, there's a lot of tired legs in there. Cup finals, we enjoy them, and that's the biggest game."

The team and their fans will travel to Wembley Stadium in London on Sunday to try and earn their first piece of silverware this season.

And with a 15-point lead at the top of the table, the Premier League is Liverpool's for the taking, but they may have to wait for it.

Their next League fixture isn't until Wednesday 2 April against local rivals Everton.

Liverpool need another 16 points from their remaining nine matches to guarantee the Premier League Champions title.
