The Lionesses are a step closer to defending their European title after beating the Republic of Ireland 2-1 on Friday night.

Alessia Russo scored the first goal. This was followed by a penalty from Georgia Stanway.

The reigning champions are trying to qualify for the competition in 2025 and this win moves them up to second in Group A3.

They'll qualify for the finals if they take a point against Sweden on Tuesday.  However, if they lose, they'll have to go through the play-offs.
