TikTok could be banned in the US after Christmas

TikTok says it will continue trying to get judges to stop a new law which would ban the app in the US from mid-January.
It's after politicians decided there was too much risk of users data going to China's government.
The video app is due to be banned in the US from January after a US court rejected an attempt by the social media company to change the decision.
Politicians from both major US political parties supported a law that bans TikTok unless the company that owns it agrees to sell to a non-Chinese company.
TikTok's owner, ByteDance, is a Chinese company and politicians in the US are worried that the Chinese government could use the app to access users' data. ByteDance deny that would happen.
TikTok's owners say the law means it will be forced to sell up or shut down in the US by 19 January 2025.

In April President Joe Biden signed a bill which called for TikTok's sale.
The social media company took the case to court arguing that the ban would impact freedom of speech for people in the US who use the app.
Although it was rejected, TikTok says it will now take it to the Supreme Court which is the highest court in the US.
Donald Trump, who will officially become the 47th President of the United States on 20 January, previously threatened to force TikTok to be sold or shut down.
But in the end a deal was done to keep it going.
During the 2024 US election he said he wouldn't support a ban, but Mr Trump will be become president on 20 January - the day after the law says TikTok must be be banned or sold.
