US President Donald Trump was given the full royal treatment at Windsor Castle last night as he attended a state banquet with his wife, First Lady Melania Trump, as part of their state visit to the UK.

The event, which is designed as an important way to strengthen the relationship between the UK and the USA, saw a glittering feast with plenty of fancy food, music and speeches.

The banquet followed a day of events, including a carriage ride and military display.

Hosted by the King, Mr Trump described his state visit to Britain as one of the "highest honours" of his life.

He added that he and Melania were both "deeply grateful" to the King and Queen for hosting them at the castle.

The state banquet saw 160 guests attending the event, with the meal taking place around a nearly 50 metre long table.

The table was so big, it took a week to put together and included 139 candles, 1,452 pieces of cutlery and just over 100 staff working to serve all the guests.

The guests were treated to a three course meal consisting of:

Starter: Hampshire watercress panna cotta with parmesan shortbread and quail egg salad

Main: Organic Norfolk chicken ballotine wrapped in courgettes with a thyme and savoury infused jus

Dessert: Vanilla ice cream bombe with Kentish raspberry sorbet interior with lightly poached Victoria plums

There were also speeches by the King and the US President.

First to speak was the King.

King Charles said it was a "great pleasure" for him and his wife to welcome President Trump and Melania to Windsor Castle.

The King called it a "unique" and "important" occasion - and spoke about the shared history between US and UK and talked about the two countries' special relationship, common culture and interests.

He also praised Mr Trump's "commitment" to finding solutions to world conflicts.

It was then the US President's turn to addressing the state banquet.

He described it as a "singular privilege" to be first American president to be welcomed twice on a state visit to the UK, and he made guests laugh, saying he hoped he'd be the only President to get it.

Like the King, President Trump also spoke about the "bond" between the two countries.

He also thanked the King and Queen for hosting them at Windsor Castle, adding that the occasion was: "One of the highest honours of my life."
